Green from B… to Z

Seventy from Blend Plants is a mixing plant with low consumption, high efficiency and product quality that is even more advantageous thanks to tax incentives

Concrete is the second most consumed product in the world after water and it is difficult to substitute thanks to its unparalleled performance: concrete is durable, fire resistant, versatile, inexpensive, insulating and available everywhere, as well as being infinitely recyclable. Without concrete we would have no bridges, dams or roads, nor buildings or airports, etc..

But all of this has an environmental cost: concrete production contributes about 8% to all global carbon dioxide emissions. How can we tackle this at a time when we are more and more aware of our environmental impact?

1. Producing concrete directly on site reduces both transport times and costs, it optimises work logistics and reduces emissions, as well as guaranteeing a fresh and high-quality product

This is one of Blend Plants’ goals, whose mobile mixing plants aim to produce concrete, cold asphalt and other mixtures, while at the same time reducing waste and maximising productivity, with a particular focus on the future of the planet.

The plant that reduces consumption and emissions

Blend has chosen the fourth edition of GIC trade show, in Piacenza (Italy) to relaunch its most renowned plant, Seventy, in a greener guise: an innovative mobile mixing plant that offers more advantages than the traditional truck mixer, with a particular focus on green building and the Green Economy (https://blendplants.com/).

Seventy is extremely mobile and can be installed on trucks, this allows direct on-site production and distribution of material in the quantity required, enabling you to obtain a fresh and high-quality product, with no waste and no additional transport.

2. Cleaning the mixer is done directly on site, thanks to the built-in washing system, which has low water consumption needs

The truck set-up also allows the transport of aggregates avoiding empty trips; on-site mixing reduces consumption compared to a traditional truck mixer: −50% transport costs, 50% fuel savings +20% for the use of Dual Fuel methane, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Added to this, safety is improved: thanks to the lower centre of gravity and stable load, no material is lost while travelling.

Its compact structure, reduced noise, compared to other machinery and low levels of pollution, thanks to the use of Euro 6 engines only, even better if bi-fuel, methane or electric, make Seventy the ideal plant for towns and cities, both for supplying concrete, and for pumping traditional and self-levelling screed.

The Blend plant is also widely used in the road sector to produce cold asphalt, regenerated asphalt, concrete produced from recycled aggregates and to spread road salt, activities that allow the machine to be used in the winter too.

Finally, Seventy requires little water for washing and maintenance meaning precious water resources are conserved and no additional system is needed.

3. The A240 plant was located directly on site: a specific area was dedicated to the processing of concrete to transform it into recycled aggregates, subsequently loaded into the Blend for concrete production

Its set-up and operation ensure Seventy is a truly green machine, able to mix concrete while reducing its environmental impact on people and the planet. The plant is actually built with highly recyclable materials, such as steel; the hydraulic oil and greases used in the components are biodegradable and the paints chosen are environmentally friendly.

Last but not least, implementing the use of CO2 in concrete mixing with blend plants is underway.

Recycled aggregates: an inexhaustible resource

Blend Seventy, like all machines in the E-series range, can produce concrete, cold asphalt and other cementitious mixtures with the possibility of using recycled materials: rubble, milled asphalt, rubber, glass and so on. Today, recycled aggregates represent a valuable and inexhaustible resource; Blend has found a way to use them with its plants with a view to achieving a genuine circular economy.

An example is the work carried out by the Company Vitali SpA for Linate airport, completed in 2019. Opting for a Blend A240 allowed the runaway to be reconstructed using 80% of recycled aggregates from the old one.

4. By using 100% demolition waste, it is possible, with the Blend machine, to produce recycled concrete to create modular and combinable blocks thanks to the Betonblock mold system

The impact on the environment and on the traffic around the airport was minimal and Vitali SpA calculated that 200 fewer truck trips were needed per day. Not to mention that the material of the old runway was completely reused.

“Using the Blend A240, located directly on site, allowed us to save 130,000 m3 of material, which we would have had to transport to landfill and return to the site as virgin material, with additional costs for excavations and transport, as well as longer logistics times,” says Luca Vitali, Partner and CEO of Vitali SpA.

In terms of emissions, about 650,000 kg of CO2 were saved, with a considerable reduction in logistics traffic in the Milan metropolitan area.

In the recycling sector, Blend plants represent a perfect match with Betonblock molds in the production of concrete blocks using 100% recycled material from demolition waste.

Improve the energy efficiency
5. One of Blend Plants’ aims is to improve the energy efficiency of its production site in Rodengo Saiano (BS) starting by installing photovoltaic panels over the entire roof

Sustainability that’s worth it

But how much does this sustainability cost? Blend thought of that, too. In addition to being an extremely versatile and multi-purpose plant, Blend Seventy possesses all the requisites to benefit from Industry 4.0 incentives.

All Blend plants can have a GPS system incorporated that allows expert management of transport, non-empty trips and a real-time control of raw material consumption and product quality, automatic billing and invoicing by truck and production reports, a purchase eligible for Industry 4.0 hyper depreciation.

Producing concrete with a Blend in “Green” setup means taking the first step towards a more sustainable future, so as to improve your Company structure, starting from the use of machinery with low consumption and emissions, which increase the quality of work and profitability, as well as benefiting the environment.

A more sustainable future
6. Producing concrete with a Blend in “Green” set-up means taking the first step towards a more sustainable future

Concrete is a valuable material, whose production process can now be made more sustainable, thanks to technology, research and focus on the environment.

Companies like Blend Plants are working to improve their products and offer solutions to ensure that future generations can enjoy the same resources as we do today.
